The real Ohio experience
We moved to Grayslake after living in Ohio for almost 40 years. There are some misconceptions about Ohio politics.
For John Kasich to tout that he reduced spending and lowered taxes for Ohioans is a misconception.
What he did was reduce the state support for local governments and local schools. That resulted in Ohio taxpayers having to pick up the slack through local taxes. As a result, the average Ohio taxpayer did not get a tax break. They simply paid more taxes and fees elsewhere.
Kasich also boasts about the improvement in the Ohio economy. It is true there has been improvement. But it began with the federal support of the auto industry. It is a big source of jobs in Ohio. Kasich cannot claim all the credit.
And one other thing. Gov. Rauner is promoting term limits. Ohio has term limits, but it does not work the way Gov. Rauner thinks. What happens in Ohio is that the politicians play musical chairs with state offices. When they reach the limit of their terms, they simply file and run for another office.
They never go away.
