Clemson dismisses reserve DB Kaleb Chalmers following arrest

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Clemson reserve defensive back Kaleb Chalmers has been dismissed from the Tigers football team after his drug arrest last week.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said Tuesday that Chalmers was no longer with the program. Chalmers was arrested last week on three drug possession charges in Clinton, South Carolina. He was released on a $1,000 bond.

Chalmers, 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, is a freshman who redshirted last season. He was expected to provide depth in the secondary, where three of Clemson's four starters from last year's team left early for the NFL draft.

Swinney says he hopes Chalmers remains in school, moves forward and learns from his mistakes.

It is the second setback for the secondary this spring; Adrian Baker tore an ACL at practice earlier this spring.
