Taylor University president steeping down Aug. 15

UPLAND, Ind. (AP) - The president of a Christian liberal arts university in northeastern Indiana has resigned

Taylor University announced this week that its president, Paul Lowell Haines, will step down Aug. 15.

Taylor Trustees Chair Paige Cunningham says Haines' resignation was neither solicited nor encouraged by the Board of Trustees. Cunningham says Haines continues to enjoy strong support from the board.

Haines, a 1975 alumnus of the university located in Upland, has been president for three years. Haines returned to Taylor after a long career as a higher education lawyer and spent 15 years as a Taylor trustee. He also is a former vice president for student development at Taylor.

Cunningham says the trustees will work with Haines to ensure a smooth transition in the office.
