N. Indiana man allegedly held 4 people hostage for 5 days

ELKHART, Ind. (AP) - Police say a northern Indiana man held four people hostage in an apartment during a five-day ordeal in which he allegedly threatened them with a handgun.

Thirty-one-year-old Derrick Glass was arrested Tuesday after Elkhart police say he allowed one of his alleged hostages to go shopping but she instead immediately reported the hostage situation to officers.

Sgt. Chris Snyder says Glass confined a 68-year-old man and women ages 64, 26 and 21 against their will inside the apartment from Friday until Tuesday, but they were not "tied up or restricted."

Glass allegedly assaulted two of the women with a handgun.

The Elkhart Truth reports (http://bit.ly/2pKA8fY ) Glass faces four counts of criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon and two counts of aggravated battery. He remained jailed without bond Thursday.
