Fort Wayne man gets 190 years for 3 shooting deaths
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a Fort Wayne man to 190 years in prison following his convictions on three counts of murder.
WANE-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2lUbwg3 ) 20-yeart-old Artavius Richards was sentenced Monday to 60 years each for the Feb. 24, 2016, shootings deraths of 23-year-old Mohamedtaha Omar, 20-year-old Adam Mekki, and 17-year-old Muhannad Tairab, plus 10 years for a handgun enhancement.
Richards was found guilty by a jury last month after his first trial ended in a hung jury.
Investigators have said the slayings resulted from a robbery.
Richards told the court he plans to appeal his sentence.
Also Monday, 19-year-old co-defendant Darrell L. McDaniel agreed to plead guilty to robbery. He faces no more than 20 years when he's sentenced April 10. Prosecutors agreed to drop three murder charges.
