Letters were not clear on the facts
I was saddened to see that letters to the editor from Ms. Nowicki and Mr. Lupo were written without the writers being well informed of that of which they were speaking.
To Ms. Nowicki, if you feel what Madonna, Ashley Judd, and others of their ilk screamed at the crowds was not "very angry, vulgar, or hostile," then we have our proof that the your side is not listening. If you do not feel these were angry, vulgar and hostile tirades, then we know "what kind of people are all around us."
That you could actually state it never happened when the proof is on numerous videos is mind boggling. To know that you do not find them offensive is even worse.
As to Mr. Lupo, there is only one well-known scholar who us purporting that the Electoral College was formed because of slavery. Please do your research before committing yourself to any opinion worth holding.
There were many thoughts behind the Electoral College but slavery was not one of them, the most important factor being that all states no matter their size wanted equality in the vote for president and vice-president. That couldn't possibly happen with a poplar vote.
Mr. Lupo assumes the United States is a direct democracy. It is not and never has been. It was formed as a constitutional republic with the specific intent of denying mob rule through popular vote as was happening in Europe.
