Reopen libraries for online checkout

Now that the national lockdown has been extended until the end of April, I have a suggestion to support childhood education. Let's reopen the vast resources of our libraries via the internet.

Books and other physical content could be checked out online, picked up and then returned curbside at local libraries. Plastic bags for books could be donated and any materials disinfected upon return. The Coronavirus persists for no more than 24 hours on paper and cardboard surfaces, so books could be safely returned to circulation within 48 hours.

The Chinese word for "crisis" combines two separate characters, one being "danger" and the other "opportunity." Let us seize this opportunity to expose our kids to the wonder of books and learning. They have the time now to read.
