Two Aurora men face charges after cops find gun, drugs
Two 18-year-old Aurora men are facing felony charges after police found a handgun and drugs in their possession, authorities said Friday.
Police said they apprehended the men and a 16-year-old boy as part of a traffic stop around 4:50 p.m. Sunday at State and Claim streets. When they began questioning the occupants, officers said they smelled a strong odor of cannabis.
When they searched the driver of the car, Jordi Nevarez of the 900 block of Claim Street, police said they found several Xanax pills in one of his shirt pockets. After further questioning, the officers learned Nevarez bought the drugs from the other 18-year-old, Brandon A. Alcaraz of the 100 block of N. State Street.
Police also said they found a .38-caliber revolver in the car and a jar containing cannabis that they were able to tie to Alcaraz.
Alcaraz was charged with armed violence, unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful delivery of cannabis, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of cannabis.
Nevarez was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and received a traffic citation.
The 16-year-old was charged with possession of tobacco by a minor.
