Des Plaines residents left 3 young kids home alone, police say

Two Des Plaines residents were arrested Feb. 17 after police discovered they'd left three young children home alone, authorities said Tuesday in a news release.

Rufina Gomez Dorado, 54, and Maria De La Luz Sanchez Ramirez, 44, both of the 2900 block of Curtis Street, are charged with endangering the life or health of a child, police said.

Des Plaines police had gone to their home while assisting Chicago police with an investigation, and the officers discovered kids ages 6, 4, and 2 home without any adults. The 6-year-old told police he's often left alone to care for his siblings and speaks with a caretaker using a camera in one room, according to the release.

The adults were arrested after they returned home. The kids were temporarily turned over to other adults.
