Letter: If leaders won't act on guns, vote them out
Week after week after week, we see and hear about another mass shooting. I am beyond sick and tired of so many politicians, who should be passing legislation to protect Americans, telling us that they're sad, sending prayers and nothing can be done because we have a constitutional right to own guns,
Or they say that the problem is anger or mental illness, not guns. I've had enough of this garbage nonsense. It IS the guns and their easy availability, especially weapons designed for war, like the AR-15 and similar weapons.
These types of guns have no place in civilian society. Our constitution protects "a well regulated militia," it doesn't say that every person who wants a gun should be able to acquire one. Over 80% of Americans polled want stronger restrictions on gun purchases and ownership, a huge majority. Our representatives and senators are not doing the business of the American public. They are supporting the NRA instead.
These are the same hypocrites who claim to want to protect the unborn. What about those of us who are already born and just trying to live our lives?
Enough of that smelly rhetoric. We can't continue to allow dozens and dozens more innocent people be gunned down because some politicians are too connected to the NRA or are too weak to stand up for what is right.
There is no logic or pattern to these mass shootings. The next time you go grocery shopping, go to a mall or a theater or even attend a religious service, your name could be added to the grim statistics of mass shootings. Our Declaration of Independence says we have a right to life. If politicians won't protect our lives, vote them out.
