Geneva to host July 29 open house on underground cable replacement project
The City of Geneva will be conducting an open house Wednesday, July 29. to answer resident questions prior to starting an underground cable replacement project in August.
Replacing underground electric cable enhances the city's electric service reliability, and this year's improvement will take place in the Geneva East subdivision Phase 1 Unit 1.
Residents are invited to an open house from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Geneva Public Works Department, 1800 South St.
The open house is informal in nature, and people can come or leave as they please.
Participants will be required to wear a face covering, answer the city's coronavirus building entry questionnaire, and should social distance from others once inside, per the city's COVID-19 regulations. Depending on attendance, people may have to wait outside until others leave so the City can follow the State's Phase 4 guidelines for public gatherings.
Construction is scheduled to begin the week of Aug. 3, and the project work zone includes the following streets:
• East Side Drive,
• Britta Lane,
• Manchester Course,
• Geneva Drive, and
• Manchester Court.
Utility Dynamics, the city's contractor, will be directional boring new conduit through the easements and then pulling wire through the new conduit.
Electrical transformers, pedestals and street lights also will be replaced. Scheduled power outages will be required during construction, and impacted residents will receive notification two days in advance. Crews will be working in either the public right-of-way or in utility easements.
Construction is scheduled to be completed in January with landscape restoration being finished in spring 2021, all weather permitting.
The city sent a project notification letter to residents. For additional information, visit www.geneva.il.us/1209/Underground-Cable-Replacement.
