Batavia man charged in Geneva crash

A Batavia man has been charged with felony aggravated driving under the influence and several misdemeanor offenses after he was involved in a Dec. 22 crash in Geneva that caused him and the other driver to spend multiple days in the hospital, according to a news release Monday from the Geneva Police Department.

David J. Walgenbach, a 28-year-old from the 400 block of Maves Drive, was driving north on the 200 block of State Street in a silver Mazda CX-5 on Crissey Avenue at 1:37 a.m. when he failed to stop at an intersection and struck a silver Honda Accord being driven by a 22-year-old Geneva resident, according to the release.

The Honda was pushed into the front yard of a residence on the north side of State Street, causing the car to hit some bushes and concrete stairs outside the home, which wasn't structurally damaged, the release said.

Walgenbach and the 22-year-old driver were taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital with serious injuries.

The 22-year-old was released Dec. 24 and Walgenbach was released the following day, the release said.

Walgenbach was charged with aggravated driving under the influence causing great bodily harm, expired registration, disobeying a stop sign, failure to wear a seat belt, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of fireworks.
