CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago's mayor has chosen a new leader of the city's housing authority.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced her selection of Tracey Scott on Friday. Scott comes from working as the interim leader of the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority. She previously held administrative roles with the Atlanta Housing Authority.

Minneapolis' housing agency oversees programs and services for more than 26,000 seniors and families. Chicago's Housing Authority is nearly triple that size, serving more than 63,000 families and has a budget of $1 billion, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

'œTracey's breadth of experience and dedication for improving public housing make her a perfect fit to lead the Chicago Housing Authority as we embark on our ambitious agenda to transform our city's economic landscape,'ť Lightfoot said in a statement.

Scott's appointment must be formally approved by the Chicago Housing Authority's Board of Commissioners at its next meeting on March 17.

Angela Hurlock, chair of the board, said in a statement that members are 'œimpressed'ť with Scott's previous work.

"We are looking forward to the CHA's future with Tracey at the helm and will work with her to ensure that our families, veterans, seniors, and most vulnerable residents have the opportunity to secure housing across Chicago,'ť Hurlock said.
