Chicago man dead after motorcycle and truck collide in Rosemont

A 33-year-old Chicago man was identified Tuesday as the motorcyclist killed in a collision with a dump truck Monday in Rosemont.

Kermy R. Rivera was struck at the intersection of Mannheim Road and Touhy Avenue at 3:15 p.m. Monday and was taken by paramedics to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. He was pronounced dead at 3:56 p.m. as a result of multiple blunt-force injuries, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office and the Rosemont Public Safety Department.

Rosemont Sgt. Joe Balogh said the truck was westbound on Touhy and making a left turn onto southbound Mannheim when it collided with the motorcycle, which was eastbound on Touhy.

First responders from the Rosemont and Des Plaines police departments performed CPR before paramedics arrived and took the motorcyclist to the hospital, Balogh said.

The police investigation is still determining who had the right of way, but preliminary information suggests the motorcycle was crossing the intersection through a red light, Balogh said.

The truck driver, who was not injured, is cooperating with the investigation, and no citations have been issued, Balogh said.

The crash and subsequent investigation delayed service on the nearby Metra North Central line and diverted traffic in the area for nearly five hours during the afternoon and evening commute, which already was heavier than normal because of a concert at the Allstate Arena.
