Dog dies in Elgin house fire
A dog died during a house fire on Elgin's west side Wednesday morning.
A news release from the Elgin Fire Department said they responded to a report of a house fire at approximately 9:45 a.m. on the 1500 block of St. Andrew Circle.
Firefighters found a single-family home with flames coming from a first-floor window and heavy smoke throughout the house. The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes of their arrival.
The occupants weren't home at the time of the fire, but a dog died in the house. No other injuries were reported.
Initial estimates put fire and smoke damage at around $150,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
