Letter: Gas and capitalism

Mr. Malecki's letter of June 8 blames the party not in power for high gas prices. The Republicans did not shut down oil pipelines or reduce oil and gas production that all caused higher oil and gas prices. This is Trump Derangement Syndrome on display. Why were oil and gas prices not higher under the Republicans? He correctly states supply and demand is the basis for all economies {well, capitalistic economies}, but then states Republicans are keeping low-mileage vehicles in production. This is absolutely wrong. Under capitalism, the consumer determines what products a company produces and sells. His understanding of free market capitalism is astonishingly terrifying.
