Lake Villa woman pleads guilty to theft from nonprofit
A Lake Villa woman accused of taking money from a nonprofit organization that employed her as its financial coordinator was sentenced to 24 months of probation after pleading guilty this week to felony theft.
Karrol L. Williams, 45, of the 37000 block of North Columbus Drive, also was ordered to pay $13,500 in restitution and perform 150 hours of community service as part of a plea deal, court records show.
The agreement also includes a sentence of 180 days in the Lake County jail, but Williams won't have to serve that time if she meets all the conditions of her probation.
Authorities say that between mid-2012 and late 2014, Williams used credit cards belonging to the Community Youth Network to make personal purchases in the amount of $36,470, then moved funds from other accounts to conceal her theft. At the time, Williams was working as the financial coordinator for the Grayslake-based agency that provides counseling and other services for children.
Charges of identity theft and forgery were dropped as part of the plea deal.
