Blackberry Township road tax increase shot down

For the fifth time in 14 years, Blackberry Township voters rejected a proposal Tuesday to hike taxes to fix and maintain township roads.

With all precincts reporting, the measure was shot down by a margin of 2 to 1, or 4,446 to 2,301 votes, according to unofficial results.

Had the tax increase been approved, it would have cost a taxpayer with a $300,000 home an additional $80 per year.

Tax increase proposals in March 2004, November 2006, April 2013 and April 2015 also failed.
