Palatine men accused of stealing car, crashing it
Two Palatine men face multiple charges after they stole a vehicle, crashed it and then fled from the scene, authorities said.
On Tuesday, Palatine police responded to a crash on the 2300 block of North Hicks Road. Witnesses told police that two men fled the scene after the crash carrying a black rifle.
Officers found two men - Marco Vasquez, 19, and Christian Ruiz, 19, both of the same home on 500 block of Spruce Drive - a short distance from the crash and discovered a rifle-style BB gun in some bushes near a fence, police said.
After investigating further, police discovered the 2015 Nissan Versa was stolen from a parking area of Arlington Toyota, 2031 N. Rand Road. Police say they forced open an overhead garage door and took the ignition key for the car.
Vasquez was charged with felony unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle. Ruiz was charged with felony burglary.
Both await bond court in Rolling Meadows.
