Wheeling Township's Fun Fair for Disabled Kids A Success

Everyone from Pirates and Red Riding Hood to a Fireman and Pikachu came to Wheeling Township's annual Fall Fun Fair, which was held in late October. The Fall Fun Fair, hosted by Wheeling Township and over 100 volunteers from the community, took place at Riley Elementary School in Arlington Heights. A costume contest, games, prizes and pizza were enjoyed by party-goer and volunteer alike.

Disabled kids under 15 and their families dressed up for the big event and had the opportunity to participate in all sorts of disability-friendly games and crafts including the bean bag toss, tic-tac-toe, matching, and face painting. Samson, a comfort dog from Faith Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights, was also on hand for the kids to pet.

A wide variety of local organizations and individuals created and operated the games, including several Cub Scout and Girl Scout Troops, the American Legion Juniors, the Mt Prospect/Prospect Heights Rotary Club and Riley Elementary School's 'SPIN' group. Additionally, again this year, one very talented Arlington Heights resident provided eight beautifully decorated pumpkins for the costume contest winners to take home.

"The kids, their families AND the volunteers enjoyed the day so much," said Lynndah Easterwood Lahey, Wheeling Township's Director of Senior & Disability Services. "The Township loves to provide this party because we have as much fun as they do! The expressions of joy and happiness are obvious to everyone." Aileen Zei, Wheeling Township's Assistant Director of Senior & Disability Services, added: "This one of a kind opportunity for the disabled kids in Wheeling Township is something we're all proud to participate in."
