Boys soccer: Piggott earns shutout for Grayslake Central
Marko Marynevych scored twice, Jonathan Piggott made 5 saves in net for his third shutout, and Grayslake Central beat host Wauconda 5-0 in Northern Lake County Conference boys soccer action Tuesday night.
Rams freshman Daniel Marynevych scored his ninth goal in nine appearances, Ben Berry had a goal and an assist, and Thomas Ramsey contributed 2 assists. Nick Hoffman also scored for Grayslake Central (5-7, 3-1). Tyler Kalata, Thomas Conlon and Owen Aaberg had assists as well.
"We played well today," Rams coach Tom Hamilton said. "We're starting to move the ball more quickly and move off the ball more intelligently to create chances. Wauconda put together some good attacks at times, but we defended well as a unit and everyone put in the work to earn the clean sheet. Now we're looking to continue building on our successes and learning from our mistakes as we move on to the next conference match."
Lakes 0, Round Lake 0: Lakes received 10 saves from goalie Camden Steinert in the Northern Lake County Conference draw.
Lakes is 4-4-1 and 2-1-1 in the NLCC.
"Despite the 0-0 score line, both teams played some fine attacking soccer to score, but both defenses were up to the task culminating in the scoreless draw," Lakes coach Kevin Kullby said. "I am proud of the team's effort and one of our captains, Brady Lucas, who has proved game in and game out to be one of the best players in the NLCC with his outstanding play on both sides of the ball. His vision, passing, one v. one abilities are second to none. With his 7 goals and 3 assists along with his leadership, Brady has a complete game and from the holding midfield position makes him one of the best players in the area, no doubt about it."
Libertyville 3, Lake Zurich 0: The visiting Wildcats got second-half goals from Mickey Reilly, Landon Johnson and Patrick Graham in the North Suburban Conference game.
Johnson also had an assist, and Hunter Lynch made 8 saves in net for the shutout.
Mundelein 6, Stevenson 2: The visiting Mustangs led 3-0 at halftime of the North Suburban Conference match.
Stevenson (4-6-1, 1-2) got second-half goals from Evan Paldrmic, assisted by Camron Mahdavian, and Alem Duratovic, assisted by Daniel Saltzman.
Grant 1, North Chicago 0: Val Cerna scored in the first half of the Northern Lake County Conference match.
Thomas Slomian earned the assist, and Cade Morley made 3 saves in earning the shutout.
Grayslake North 3, Antioch 1: Sam Inmon scored the tiebreaking goal in the first half and added an insurance tally after halftime for the visiting Knights in the Northern Lake County Conference match.
Logan Holevas converted a penalty kick and also set up Inmon's first goal. Omar Cordova added an assist for Grayslake North (3-6-2, 2-2).
