Elgin AAUW awards two scholarships
The Elgin Area Branch of the American Association of University Women recently announced their 2022 scholarship recipients.
Maribel Turcan and Jacqueline Vargas each received $1,000 from scholarship co-committee chairs Carol Wieg and Vivienne Baily at the annual awards night banquet at Biaggi's Ristorante Italiano in Algonquin.
The AAUW mission is to advance equity for women through advocacy and education, both on the local levels and in partnership with the National AAUW.
The Elgin AAUW awards two scholarships each year.
The Betty Medearis Memorial Scholarship, begun in 1998, is named for a beloved past branch member in the amount of $1,000 and is available for an undergraduate to be used for college or university within a 50-mile radius of Elgin.
All women, age 19 or older and have completed at least 12 hours of college credit are invited to apply.
The Legacy Scholarship, began in 2020, provides an opportunity to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Elgin Area branch.
A $1,000 scholarship is available for an undergraduate to be used for college or university within a 50-mile radius of Elgin.

Membership in the AAUW is open to all graduates having associates or equivalent baccalaureate degrees from accredited colleges and universities. An undergraduate student enrolled in a regionally accredited educational institution shall be eligible for student affiliation.
