Elgin church to host special worship celebrating Reformation

On Sunday, Oct. 29, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Elgin will be celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation with a special celebration worship at 10 a.m.

The Rev. Keith Haney, mission facilitator of the Northern Illinois District, will be the featured guest preacher. He will be discussing the theme "Your Grace Finds Me," based on Galatians 3:1-4.

There will be the Rite of Confirmation for five young people in this service and the Lord's Supper will be celebrated.

Music for this service dates back to the time when Martin Luther penned the hymn "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" all the way to modern day hymns and anthems. Featured will be special settings of "O Church Arise" by Keith and Kristen Getty, "God Is Our Refuge and Strength" based on Psalm 46 by John Behnke and a new setting of "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" by Jeffery Blersch.

Choirs participating from the church include Shepherd's Voice, New Sound Praise Band, Shepherd Singers, The Bells of Good Shepherd and the Shepherd's Brass Quartet.

The liturgy will be built on Divine Service III, including a Creedal Hymn, the service will close with the well-known Lutheran benediction, "The Lord Bless You and Keep You" by Peter Lutkin.

The church is located at 195 Nesler Road on Elgin's west side. For information, call (847) 741-7788 or visit www.goodshepherd-elgin.org.
