Assistant Scout Master, Neighborhood Commissioner and Assistant District Commissioner.Elected offices held: Village Trustee 6 yearsMayor 8 yearsQuestions Answers What makes you the best candidate for the job?I have a total of 14 prior years experience and although not on the board for 8 years I regularly attend board meetings.What is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales and property taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.The village does need more business's providing sales tax. As with all of Lake County property taxes are way too high.Rate the efficiency of your town's police and fire coverage. Are the departments well prepared for the next decade? What, if anything, should be changed? Do you have specific public safety concerns?Fire coverage is excellent and the fire districts are well prepared for the future. Hainesville is served by the Grayslake police department and appears to be well prepared for the future. Protection is excellent and I don't have any safety concerns. If you are aware of the past when I was Mayor we did start our own police department and it was outstanding for a small village. Had I won 8 years ago I would have kept it.Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?The present finance chairman (soon to be Mayor) has done a great job of keeping finances under control with the present economy. I feel he should continue to keep that position when he becomes Mayor.What is one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?There are grants available and I think the village needs to establish and active, and I mean active, grant committee to go after them.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Hainesville has limited land available for commercial development but what we have is prime. I know the present administration is pursuing businesses and with the economy improving we should begin to see action again.Please name one current leader who most inspires you.At this point in time I can't say there is one.What is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Don't be afraid of hard work and try new adventures.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?I would play less when I was in the Navy during WW2 and work harder to achieve advancement.What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?In high school it was various shop courses. In college it probably was math.If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?My kids are all in their 60's and successful now so there isn't much advice I could give them .
