Prospect Heights liquor store to reopen after 5-day suspension
A Prospect Heights liquor store will reopen Tuesday after being closed for five days by the city's liquor commission for selling alcoholic beverages to a minor three times.
Mayor Nick Helmer, who is also the Prospect Heights liquor commissioner, called S&G Food and Liquor, 828 N. Elmhurst Road, to a hearing after resident complaints of liquor sales to high school students and three citations in the past 18 months.
The business agreed to pay a $2,000 fine and close its doors from 11 p.m. Feb 24 until 8 a.m. March 1. All employees also must undergo additional training on alcohol sales and distribution, according to a news release.
"We are choosing to suspend the business and liquor licenses of S&G Food and Liquor due to their disregard for following state and local laws," Helmer said in the release. "I feel that this is an appropriate penalty for this business, as safety is our first concern with our residents."
