A winner's perspective

I really wish that obituaries would stop saying "lost her/his battle with cancer." That makes the deceased sound weak and labels them as losers when, in fact, they killed the cancer by denying it a place to live and grow. Wouldn't it be better to write "On May 5, 2016, Mary killed the cancer she had been battling by denying it a place to live and grow. You gave up your life, but you won."
