LZHS Theatre presents 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee'
Lake Zurich High School Theatre will present its annual spring musical, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," April 27-29.
This hilarious and unexpectedly heartwarming musical tells the story of a group of quirky and competitive sixth graders, each eager and enthusiastic to win their school spelling bee for different reasons. On their daunting quest toward the championship, the tweens learn a new sense of belonging and, in the process, come to realize that there is more to life than winning a trophy.
Performed by Lake Zurich High School students and directed by Tom Skobel, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" features an engaging, tuneful score by William Finn and is based on the sweet, funny book by Rachel Sheinkin. With a host of touching, vibrant and charming songs, each speller reveals his or her hopes, struggles and passions as they make their way through the competition.
LZHS Theatre will also be holding two fundraisers at all performances of show. The first is a basket raffle, offering an eclectic array of themed baskets full of useful items and treats. Theater patrons may also enter to win upgraded performance seats and a goody bag, via the inaugural "Best Seats in the House" raffle. Tickets for both raffles are $1, with proceeds benefiting the LZHS Theatre Program.
Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, April 27 and 28, and at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at the Lake Zurich Performing Arts Center, 300 Church St. Tickets are $10 for students and seniors and $12 for adults. Tickets are available at lz95.org/pac. Tickets may also be purchased at the door at all performances. No Bear Booster passes will be accepted for this show.
