Police say guard shot gunman during East Chicago robbery
EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (AP) - Police say a gunman robbing a cellphone store in northwestern Indiana was shot in the head by a security guard.
The shooting happened Thursday evening at a Metro PCS store in East Chicago. City police Detective Sgt. Terence Fife tells The (Northwest Indiana) Times that the man entered with a scarf covering his face, pulled out a gun and ordered employees to give him all the money in the cash register.
The guard shot the man during the robbery. Fife says arriving officers found the man on the floor inside the building with cash and a handgun near him. The wounded man was taken to a Chicago-area hospital.
Fife says the wounded man wasn't immediately identified and that the shooting remained under investigation.
