4-year-old killed in I-94 crash

A child was killed in a crash on Interstate 94 Wednesday morning, according to Illinois State Police officials.

Around 10 a.m., an Illinois Department of Transportation Mack semi truck was stopped in the first lane of the interstate near 159th Street with another IDOT truck as they responded to an abandoned vehicle. Both vehicles had their emergency lights on, according to police officials.

A Volkswagen sedan traveling in the first lane was unable to stop and struck the back of the semi truck, causing the car to be engulfed in flames.

The 27-year-old driver of the Volkswagen was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries, but his 4-year-old passenger was killed in the accident. The 59-year-old Schaumburg man in the semi truck was unharmed.

An investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
