Proposed development a threat to neighborhood

I am a resident of Barrington in the Roslyn Road neighborhood. Our neighborhood is fighting the village to preserve the safety of residents and the character of the neighborhood.

A developer, ILM Homes Inc., wants to put in a planned community of townhouses in our neighborhood on a vacant lot surrounded on three sides by single-family homes.

This townhouse community will have its own name and its own HOA, but will be using our neighborhood roads to access routes and 59. It goes against the village's 2010 Comprehensive Plan. Within the first paragraph it reads, "The vision for Barrington is to preserve the quality of its neighborhoods, the quality of education, and the diversity of leisure time activities ..."

All throughout the Comprehensive Plan it reminds us that Barrington wants to preserve the character of its neighborhoods. Plus, it states that multifamily housing should be located downtown.

A good reason for this is stated under the heading Environmental Sustainability, " New developments or redevelopments with a high concentration of residents and/or employees should be sited near existing mass transit facilities or should provide access to mass transit facilities."

Our neighborhood is not easily accessible to downtown by foot. The consensus of our neighborhood, is that this development is the wrong type here. We would like to see the zoning of single-family homes remain and our neighborhood completed with single-family homes according to the Comprehensive Plan.

A comment by the Plan Committee chairman said that the Comprehensive Plan is a fluid document. If these townhouses are built, consider our neighborhood and its residents - Barrington residents - flushed.

Is that how the Village of Barrington wants to be known for treating their residents?
