Schaumburg library hosts Illinois bicentennial events

The Schaumburg Township District Library will host several opportunities to celebrate Illinois' bicentennial in the weeks ahead.

The activities will be held or begin at the central library, 130 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg, except the historic bus tour. Registration is required for all by calling (847) 923-3347 or visiting the Adult Information Desk.

The events include:

• "Rails that Linked the Land of Lincoln," from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3.

• "Illinois 10 Defining Moments," from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20.

• A bus trip, "Lincoln on the way to Pontiac," from 9:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, and will leave from the central library. A fee of $68 is required.

• "Ten History Makers from Illinois," from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13.

• "Schaumburg Township Illinois Bicentennial Historic Bus Tours," from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 12:45 to 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, beginning at the Schaumburg Township building, 1 Illinois Blvd. in Hoffman Estates.
