Prosecutors: Drug bust recovers more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana
The Illinois State Police North Central Narcotics Task Force, composed of officers from Arlington Heights, Wheeling and other suburban police departments, recovered more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana with a street value of more than $1 million from a Chicago residence, according to Cook County prosecutors.
The discovery came Tuesday after officers searched a garage on the 2100 block of Huron Street in Chicago and found numerous boxes containing vacuum sealed, plastic bags of marijuana, prosecutors said. The 512,129 grams recovered equals about 1,129 pounds, said Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Ryan DeGroot. The street value of the drugs is $1.129 million, he said.
Officers arrested Weston Rose, 38, of Chicago on charges of possession with intent to distribute, possession of cannabis and possession of methamphetamine, a small amount of which was found in his pocket, DeGroot said.
Rose was ordered held on $100,000 bail Wednesday in Rolling Meadows. If convicted of the most serious charge, he faces up to 30 years in prison.
Authorities also found 1,688 containers of liquid cannabis, DeGroot said.
Rose has a March 14 court date in Chicago.
