I have served the Village of Volo since I moved here in 2004. First as a member of the Business Group, then as a Plan Commission Member and finally as a Trustee. As a Trustee, I've served on several committees. Most recently the Economic Development Committee.What is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales and property taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.I think we're just right. We've held our tax rate year over year since we incorporated. Recently, we had no choice but to increase it slightly due to our decision to bring Lake Michigan Water to our community. In doing so, our residents will save money over the long run.Rate the efficiency of your town's police and fire coverage. Are the departments well prepared for the next decade? What, if anything, should be changed? Do you have specific public safety concerns?We are constantly monitoring our village safety. Our fire departments coverage is split between Wauconda Fox Lake. I have not had any complaints on either of them. We contract Lake County for police coverage. While I wouldn't say we're displeased, I think there are some improvements we need to work on.Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?No noWhat is one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?I don't I have any that we haven't already talked about as a board.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Economic Development is my primary focus.
