Baseball: Niedzwiedz tosses gem for Batavia
Brad Niedzwiedz threw a complete-game shutout to lead Batavia (3-0) to a 5-0 win over Willowbrook on Tuesday.
Batavia put up three runs in the seventh inning, led by Brady King and Ryan Ingold, who each knocked in runs in the inning.
West Aurora takes two from Oswego: The Blackhawks (4-2) won the first game of a doubleheader 6-5 and then took the sweep, winning the second game 7-2.
In Game 1, Paulo Maravillo led West Aurora to victory on the mound, lasting 2 innings, allowing a single hit and no runs while striking out 2 and walking one. Anthony Malczyk went 2-for-3 at the plate. In Game 2, West Aurora trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Justin Zimmerman doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring three runs.
Kyle Bunnetto earned the victory on the hill for the Blackhawks, going 5 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 runs while striking out six and walking one.
Crystal Lake South wins a pair: The Gators (2-0) had hot bats in both games, Yorkville in the first game 8-2 and then finishing the day with a 14-3 win over Carbondale.
In the first game, Crystal Lake South knocked in five runs in the third led by Jake Skirpan, Ian Gorken, and Alejandro Mendez who all sent runners across the plate. Joey Walsh earned the first game victory.
In the second game, Henry Tipton and Patrick Fischer had 2 hits. Nick DiBenedetto got the win throwing 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, striking out two.
Dundee-Crown drops two: The Chargers (2-2) lost a close one 8-7 against Wauconda, and then gave up an early lead to Grant in Game 2, losing 11-3.
Nick Gregory led the offense for Dundee-Crown in Game 1, going 4-for-4 at the plate, and also suffered the loss on the mound. Nick Cuciarone took the loss for Dundee-Crown in the second game, and Justin Colon hit a home run.
Huntley 14, Palatine 3: Tyler Castro wasted no opportunities at the plate, driving in 4 runs on 3 hits to lead the Red Raiders (2-1) past Palatine. Castro drove in runs on a double in the second, a single in the third, and a single in the sixth. Michael Moise was credited with the victory, allowing just a solo hit and no runs over 4 innings, striking out nine.
Kaneland 12, Bayside 0: It only took Kaneland (4-4) 5 innings to put away Bayside, led by a perfect game by Mason Kottmeyer. Thomas Shaw led the offense for the Knights, driving in 4 runs on a 3-for-3 showing at the plate.
Cary-Grove 5, Wauconda 0: Cary-Grove (3-1) got on the board in the first inning and never looked back as Quinn Priester homered on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring two runs. Priester was also the winning pitcher for the Trojans going 5 innings, allowing no hits or runs, striking out 11 and walking one.
Viera 12, St. Charles North 9: Nick DeMarco led St. Charles North (3-1) with three hits in four at bats.
