First Congregational to explore civil religion, eco-gardening July 7

First Congregational Church of Elgin will reflect upon the interplay of patriotism and religion in its worship services on Sunday, July 7, before exploring nature in the afternoon.

The morning sermon by the Rev. Michael H. Montgomery, Ph.D. will build on research in America's "civil religion" to ask what is and what should be the relationship between the church and government.

Worship services are at 8:15 and 10:15 a.m. at the church, 256 E. Chicago St. in Elgin.

At 2 p.m., go on a garden tour of fellow members' lawns and gardens which feature native plants and ecologically sustainable practices. Eco-gardening does not mean unpleasant! As with all proper garden tours, tea will be served!
