The weather was perfect for making tropiocal snowmen
While temperatures dipped into the single digits outside, children were making Hawaiian snowman shakers inside Wednesday at the Vernon Area Public Library.
It was all part of a craft program called Make-and-Take Tropical Snowman at the Lincolnshire library using plastic water bottles, glitter and Hawaiian-themed paper.
"We are taking a water bottle and adding a festive face on him, putting a little tropical scarf and adding a hat and/or little grass skirt to the snowman," said Youth Services Librarian Lisa Marie Smith. "We are hoping that people come in to get a break from the cold weather, warm up and participate in the Winter Library Club."
Hawaiian music played in the meeting room that was filled with children gluing on little orange noses, cutting green paper skirts and sprinkling glitter into the water bottles to create the snow shakers.
"Today we didn't have anything to do, so we thought this would be a very nice project," said Krystyna Mastalerz of Vernon Hills, who was at the library with her daughters, Olivia and Nicole. "The kids really enjoyed it."
