Bartlett Library successfully celebrates National Library Week

National Library Week took place from April 9-15, and throughout that week, the Bartlett Library celebrated by highlighting services and giving away prizes.

A table was set up near the front of the library where patrons could walk up to and interact with workers to learn about services they may not have known the library offers.

As for the prizes, each day a patron went to the table during that week, they were entered into a drawing to win a Nook and also got to pick out a Bartlett Library branded item. Items patrons could pick to take home with them were flashlight pens, emoji fans, travel mugs, vinyl folders, stylus pens, letter openers and sticky notes.

Some overheard phrases patrons said during the week were:

"This is the best library."

"The library is the best resource my taxes go to."

"The library is my favorite place to be."

"There's so much going on at the library."

"My library rocks!"

Patrons were very appreciative all throughout National Library Week. They walked away with lots of goodies and learned many things about the library that they did not know.

Streaming & eMedia:

Patrons learned that they don't have to physically go to the Library to use its services. They can download eAudiobooks and eBooks from the library's eMedia collection using OverDrive, download free music from Freegal Music, download eMagazines from Flipster and eMovies, eBooks and more from Hoopla.

Museum Adventure Pass:

By using a library card, patrons can get tickets or discounts at local participating educational destinations such as the Brookfield Zoo, Cantigny Park and more. The library has a limited number of passes for each participating organization, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Seed Library:

Swapping seeds is fun and easy with the Bartlett Library's very own Seed Library! Patrons can browse through a selection of seeds to take home and grow, and then they can leave their own for other patrons to take. The Bartlett Library's goal is to one day be fully sustainable through donations and create a collection that is specific to the region.

VHS Transfer Station:

It's easy to copy VHS tapes to DVDs at the Bartlett Library. All one needs is to bring in DVDs to use in the transfer, or purchase them at the library for only $1 each. Using the machine is free.

Meeting & Study Room Space:

If patrons are looking for a space to study, work on projects, host meetings or more, then they don't have to look further than the Bartlett Library. There's a significant amount of space to use without having to spend a single dime. Call ahead of time, or check out their website for more information.

Laptops & iPads available:

Laptops and iPads are available for in-library use. Laptops can be reserved in two-hour increments by anyone 13 years and older with a valid government ID or student ID and library card. Check out iPads, which are available for use in the Youth & Teen Services Department. Parents can work with their beginning readers to enhance skills, entertain, educate and to create reading/writing connections. The iPads can be reserved in one-hour increments by an adult with a valid ID.
