NRA's curious silence

How many millions of dollars has Congress spent to convict one private citizen on a gun charge as opposed to the millions of guns in the hands of criminals and gang members?

Why hasn't the NRA defended the gun ownership? Is it because the issue is registering and they are opposed to any sensible registering?
