Why it's time to 'unite or die'

Our Revolutionary War ancestors fought under a dozen or more different flags all to achieve the same end - our freedom from the King of England. We were united in this effort then, but today our president has made an unusual push to disunite us.

Even when running for office he singled out segments of our country for special prejudicial treatment demonizing them as lesser than "Americans."

This country was built through the efforts of immigrants who made it their home and raised their families here.

During the Las Vegas tragedy, there were many selfless acts of bravery and I don't think that anyone asked an injured person if they were Mexican or Muslim. The many "fund me" pages that arise to help perfect strangers in a time of need is what we are, not Trump's ideal. America was already great until he showed up.

If there is a flag to represent us other than our official flag it is the "Benjamin Franklin" flag that shows a snake chopped into 13 pieces, each piece labeled with a state's initials. Underneath is the legend, "Unite or Die." This is what we must do or perish as a county that every immigrant wants to be a part of.
