Confused about safety

How is it that the doctors who are conducting the Pfizer/Moderna clinical trials on children under 12 say that the reason the studies are moving slowly is because "safety is the No. 1 end point" and yet our schools mandate that our unvaccinated children (under 12) must attend in-person learning now?

Can someone explain to me how that is safe?
