Teaching assistant accused of sexual relationship with minor

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indianapolis man who formerly worked at a middle school has been arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a minor.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials say 29-year-old Demario Thomas, a former teaching assistant, was arrested for allegedly carrying on a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student he met at the school.

Authorities say that while Thomas met the 15-year-old at the middle school, the relationship did not begin until after he resigned from the school in April.

In a statement, police said sexual misconduct allegation was brought to the attention of police by "a concerned family member."

Thomas was being held on a preliminary charge of sexual misconduct with a minor.

It wasn't immediately known if Thomas has obtained legal representation.
