Girls lacrosse: Playoff wins for Conant, Hoffman Estates, Barrington
Senior captain Cassandra Jones scored 5 goals to help Conant's girls lacrosse team past visiting Fremd 17-11 in the regional final round of the first high school postseason.
The third-seeded Cougars advance to a 7 p.m. Wednesday matchup at Hoffman Estates against St. Charles East, the top seed in the Hoffman Estates sectional.
Against Fremd, junior attacker Betsy Riley had 3 goals and junior attacker Abbey Disalvo had 2. Junior Hannah Shulman provided a team-best 4 assists, and Disalvo had 3 and senior goalie Lex Alcantara made 8 saves.
Hoffman Estates 6, Schaumburg 5 (OT): Junior Kate Mongold and sophomore Chiara Hurd had 2 goals apiece to help the Hawks to a postseason victory in a defensive struggle at Schaumburg.
Peyton Bergner and Tawoos Rabbani also scored for fifth-seeded Hoffman Estates, which advances to a Wednesday sectional semifinal matchup on its home field.
Senior co-captain Lily Nelson stopped 17 shots for Hoffman Estates.
Fourth-seeded Schaumburg got a pair of goals from junior Audrey Warner, and goalie Emily Nakano stopped 15 shots.
Barrington 16, Huntley 3: The second-seeded Fillies had no trouble with their first-round foe, seventh-seeded Huntley. The MSL West champs advance to a 5:30 p.m. Wednesday sectional semifinal against host Hoffman Estates.
