Hanover Park man guilty of sexually abusing teenage co-worker

A former Hanover Park fast food worker pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 16-year-old female co-worker, court records show.

Karan Patel, 23, was sentenced to three years in prison Wednesday in exchange for his guilty plea to aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Additionally, Cook County Judge Marc Martin ordered Patel to register for the rest of his life as a sex offender, according to court records.

Prosecutors said Patel picked the girl up from her home in February 2016 to drive her to work. Instead, he drove to a parking lot where prosecutors say he got the girl drunk on vodka and sexually abused her.

Patel received credit for 308 days in custody.
