Naperville restaurant to host benefit for Aurora literacy center

A Naperville restaurant will host a benefit for an Aurora literacy center on Tuesday, April 18.

Francesca's Passaggio, 3124 S. Route 59, will sponsor an "Eat and Earn" event for the Dominican Literacy Center, 260 Vermont Ave. in Aurora.

The nonprofit center provides free reading, writing and speaking English instruction for immigrant women and citizenship classes for men and women.

Restaurant hours will be 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for lunch and 4 to 9 p.m. for dinner. Diners who order lunch, dinner or carryout will have 15 percent of their bill benefit the literacy center. For the center to benefit, customers must present a promotional flyer either on paper or on a mobile device.

The flyer is posted on dominicanliteracycenter.org or www.facebook.com/domlitctr/.

Sister Kathleen Ryan, center director, said "Enjoy a wonderful time with family and friends and support our mission to help all families learn English."

Founded in 1993, the center is an organization that was built to inspire and motivate. Women come to the center to learn English through the help of volunteer tutors. The DLC began from the bottom, literally. Classes started in the basemen at St. Nicholas Church in Aurora. After a year, the center needed more space and found a new home at its present location. Since then, the center has grown into a well-known organization.

Through the hard work and dedication of the Dominican Sisters, tutors and advisory board members, the center continues to serve the community in the most caring way.
