Endorsement: Yes to help youths in Hanover Township

Times have changed since 1999, but you wouldn't know it by the level of family counseling services at Hanover Township.

The money available for family therapy, and drug and opioid education, forces the township to limit its services to pre-2000 conditions, before there were more than 100,000 people living here and before people with problems were as willing to come forward and ask for assistance.

In the case of the Hanover Township referendum on the Nov. 6 ballot, a small donation could have a big impact.

For about $2.50 more per month per household, the township would raise $1 million a year, enough to triple its drug and opioid addiction and education efforts, double the resources for family therapy and open a youth center, at a time when such services are sorely needed.

These are our kids we're talking about, growing up amid unprecedented levels of opioid abuse, addiction and countless additional stresses in the suburbs and nationwide.

We recommend a yes vote on the Hanover Township referendum.
