Aurora man sentenced to 28 years for attempted murder
An Aurora man will spend 28 years in prison for an attempted murder that happened in 2013.
Armando A. Delgado, 20, was sentenced on Wednesday in Kane County court.
Prosecutors said that on Sept. 13, 2013, Delgado and a co-defendant were in Bluff Street Park on Aurora's near east side. When the victim's car drove past and stopped at a stop sign, Delgado and the co-defendant ran toward the car shouting gang slogans and flashing gang signs, according to a news release.
"The co-defendant waited behind the car while Delgado walked up to the passenger side and held a 9 mm handgun to the passenger's head," the release said. "The driver heard clicking from the gun, looked and saw Delgado's finger moving against the trigger."
The driver sped away before Delgado could shoot, but he fired at the car multiple times as it drove away, shooting out the passenger's-side window.
Police stopped Delgado a few hours later for a traffic violation and discovered that he matched the description from the shooting victims. A spent shell casing was also found in his pocket and his clothing testing positive for gunshot residue, according to the release.
Delgado must serve at least 85 percent of the 28-year sentence, although he did receive credit for 1,088 days already spent in Kane County jail.
