Fire destroys garage in Lombard but causes no injuries
No one was injured in a fire that heavily damaged the garage of a Lombard home Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Firefighters were alerted to the blaze on the 100 block of South Lombard Avenue at 4:12 p.m.
The first crews arrived three minutes later to find heavy smoke in the area and a fire in a detached garage.
The heat was so intense that several windows cracked on the nearby home. Fire also spread to a vehicle in the driveway.
Firefighters brought the fire under control, preventing further damage to nearby structures, officials said.
The garage was considered a "total loss," with damage to the building and its contents estimated to cost $50,000. The fire remains under investigation.
Lombard firefighters were assisted by Elmhurst and Villa Park departments, as well as Addison and York Center fire protection districts.
