Letter: Look for the good and work together

I was really disappointed to read in Thursday's "Our View" on the Opinion page that your editorial board believes Donald Trump is not fit to be president. I don't agree with Trump's style and some of his rhetoric, but be honest, you have to give the man credit for some accomplishments like energy independence, secure border and no nonsense negotiating, to name a few.

I don't believe any president has been the subject of more scrutiny, investigation and mudslinging than this man, and he is still standing.

Does it not bother you that Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Stacy Abrams and other Democrats have made some ugly and inflammatory comments? And recently one of Lauren Underwood's campaign staff members said, "Republicans can go to hell."

It seems that the intense hatred for the man is clouding any vision of the positive things he has done and only intensifies his followers to dig in their heels. There will never be unity in this country until everyone hangs up their fiery darts and work together.

Yes, he should tone down comments, but he is a crude, successful businessman, not a politician, who stepped away from his flashy lifestyle for a thankless job in politics and gave away his salary.

It's time for you and others to step back, take a deep breath and look for the good. I see a man who loves America wants to do what he can, not always perfectly, to keep this a great country.
