Fired Anderson workers who won lawsuit want city jobs back

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Some former Anderson city workers who won a federal lawsuit after they were fired when a new mayor took office want their old jobs back.

A U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana jury ruled last week that the city should pay $740,000 in damages to eight of the 11 fired workers.

The (Anderson) Herald Bulletin (bit.ly/21NvRBc ) reports that four plaintiffs who still live in Anderson are asking the court to either reinstate them or approve an additional monetary settlement.

The workers filed a wrongful termination lawsuit after they were fired at the start of Republican Mayor Kevin Smith's administration in 2012.

They claim their firings were politically motivated because each supported the re-election campaign of Democratic Mayor Kris Ockomon.

Smith lost his re-election bid in November.
