South Elgin Lions invite you to annual all-you-can-eat smelt fry Friday

The South Elgin Lions Club invites the community to its annual all-you-can-eat smelt fry in honor of Lion Joe Groth. It will be hosted again this year on Friday, April 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the club house, 500 Fulton St.

Groth had two passions in life - fishing and community service. In 2008, he combined these two passions to benefit the community of South Elgin by organizing the first of several annual smelt fries. He was in the middle of planning his next smelt fry in 2013 when he fell ill and passed away. The club has continued on with the tradition.

The dinner menu includes smelt, fries, coleslaw, rolls and butter for $12.

Hot dogs with fries are also available for $2. The bar will be open with $1 draft beer.

Carryout is available.

For information, contact Lion Gary Deihs at (847) 695-9599. To learn more about the South Elgin Lions, visit www.southelginlions.com. The club hosts bingo Saturdays. Doors open at 5 p.m.
